Családfa / The Móricz Family Tree

(see English below)

Elkészült a Móricz-családfa, újonnan kutatott adatok alapján.

A projektről

A PIM Kézirattárának Móricz Zsigmond-hagyatékában levő hivatalos és személyi dokumentumok, biográfiák és ágrajzok alapján indult kutatás új adatokkal járul hozzá az író és első felesége Holics Janka családtörténetének tanulmányozásához. A kutatócsoport számos digitalizált anyakönyvet, gyászjelentést, illetve egyéb internetes forrást is feldolgozott, emellett hasznosította például Porcsalmy Zoltán magántulajdonában található Holics családfa-rajzát is.

About the visualization

The research based on official and personal documents, biographies and genealogies in the Archives of Zsigmond Móricz's bequest (located in the Petőfi Literary Museum) contributes new data to the study of the family history of the writer and his first wife, Janka Holics. The research team has also used several digitised birth records, obituaries and other online sources, including the Holics family tree sketch in the private collection of Zoltán Porcsalmy.

On Zsigmond Móricz's paternal side, the Móricz family counts 62 members, while the maternal, Pallagi side has 90 ascendants. We have identified, on the paternal side of Janka Holics, 142 people, and in the Szklenár family (maternal side), 101 individuals. The combined family tree covers five generations: the most distant are the great-grandparents, and the last generation represented are Zsigmond's and Janka's children.

The results of the genealogical research go beyond the early correspondence of Zsigmond Móricz, and it not only helps to make the relationship between the correspondents but even the individuals mentioned in specific letters become more transparent. We can discover the kinship network point by point, name by name, and during the procedure, learn about the writer's family ties to the biologist Zoltán Árokszállásy, the poet Andor Simon and the photographer Lenke Nagy.

Instructions

The visualisation shows Zsigmond Móricz and his first wife, Janka Holics, with their family highlighted in red in the middle. Next to them, in circles, are four parental family trees in different colours: on Móricz's father's side, the family tree of Móricz Bálint, and on his mother's side, the family tree of Erzsébet Pallagi, and the ancestors of Janka Holics's father, Zsigmond Holics, and her mother, Teréz Szklenár.

The graph shows the entire network, representing the extensive kinship. By zooming in on the dots, the individual names are brought into focus, the thicker edges are indicating the spousal relationship and thinner edges are indicating the parent-child relationship. With further filtering, it is also possible to view family branches separately. With further filtering, it is also possible to view family branches separately under the field "Válassz családot!" (Meaning: Choose a family) the drop-down menu lists the five family branches. Clicking on a name on the right will display basic information identifying the selected person, and further navigation is possible from here.
